Coaching and Board and Train
Roam Dog Training offers service dog coaching to disabled individuals who wish to train their own service dog. Designed for the eager and dedicated owner-trainer, Roam’s service dog program is thorough and rigorous, offering a personalized and flexible training structure. Adrian trained their own service dog under the mentorship of a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor and has spent years coaching service dog owner trainers in private, group, and online settings.
Service Dog Consultation
Mandatory for all new service dog clients, the Service Dog Consultation allows Adrian to get to know incoming clients, collect important information on the history and behaviour of the dog(s), assess fitness for services, and make a training plan accordingly. Specific training advice and homework will not be given during the initial consultation. The Service Dog Consultation is a virtual, 90-minute session.

In-Person Service Dog Coaching
In-person training is ideal for most handlers, as service dog training can be finicky, and being in person allows Adrian to observe and give specific feedback in real time. All in-person training services are subject to a mileage fee of $1.00 per kilometre for sessions that take place in or around the client’s home. All sessions are one hour in length. Most clients are required to book lessons weekly or bi-weekly in order to maintain training progress.

Ten Session Package: $1,550 + HST
Service Dog Coaching Membership
Designed for the self-driven owner-trainer with some training experience under their belt, the Service Dog Coaching Membership offers a more financially accessible training option for handlers. Monthly membership includes:

One 1-hour private session (in-person or virtual)

Access to weekly office hours for questions (virtual)

Three 5-minute video submissions for review and feedback.
Membership: $375 + HST per month
Service Dog Day Training
Service dog day training sessions are an optional add-on for active service dog clients. Day training is a great way to get a headstart on a particular training issue, and/or to get some extra training practice in between private training sessions. Day Training sessions are very useful for handlers who cannot train their dogs in specific environments due to disability-related reasons. During a day training session, Adrian picks up the client’s dog from the home or meets the client at a predetermined location and does the training themselves, without the dog’s owner present.
Day training sessions are available in a package of ten, one-hour sessions. Sessions may be spread out no more than weekly for the duration of the package. All in-person training services are subject to a mileage fee of $1.00 per kilometer for sessions that take place in or around the client’s home.
Ten session package: $1,200 + HST
Public Access Test
The Public Access Test is available to pre-approved service dog teams that Adrian thinks are ready for graduation from training. The Public Access Test includes three separate public access components and is usually completed over the course of 1-3 days. Please note that a minimum of four private in-person training sessions, or two months of the Coaching Membership, are required before a team attempts the Public Access Test.

Service Dog Board and Train
The training during a service dog Board and Train is fully tailored to the team and their current needs. Board and Train programs may be helpful for handlers who are recovering from illness or injury, need a break from training their SDIT, and/or cannot train their dogs in specific environments or areas of training due to disability-related reasons. Handlers do not have to be actively training their service dog with Roam to apply for a Board and Train. For information regarding the basic details, eligibility criteria, and structure of Board and Train programs with Roam, please refer to this page. A non-refundable 50% deposit is required for all Board and Train programs at the time of booking. New clients interested in a Board and Train program must complete an in-person Service Dog Consultation (listed above) and a "Trial Sleepover" before being accepted into a Board and Train program.
Service Dog Prospect
For puppies younger than 6 months. Unless there are specific issues that need to be addressed, training will cover:

Socialization (public transit, crowds, busy roads, construction, cafés, etc)

Loose leash walking and basic obedience

Settling foundations and tether training

Crate and potty training
-
Handling, grooming, and wearing gear

Recall and exercise

Building confidence and engagement

Prevention training for unwanted behaviours (resource guarding, counter surfing, jumping, alert/demand barking, reactivity, etc)
4 week program: $5,460 + HST
6 week program: $8,190 + HST
Service Dog In Training
For adolescents 6-18 months old. Unless there are specific issues that need to be addressed, training will cover:

Generalizing puppy skills in more difficult situations

Settling in a variety of environments

Practising emotional regulation around food, dog, and human distractions

Addressing new, unwanted teenage issues

Dog and human neutrality

Loose leash walking and intermediate obedience

Longline, hiking, and recall skills
4 week program: $5,040 + HST

Advanced Service Dog
For adult dogs 18 months and older. Suitable for fully trained and in-training service dogs. Unless there are specific issues that need to be addressed, training will cover:

Working comfortably in more difficult/demanding environments

Settling for long periods of time

Reducing reinforcers

Working around other service dog teams

Starting to integrate SDIT into daily life (work, classes, appointments, etc.)
